Day 9 EBC (16,900 ft)
We woke up to clear skies and frost on the window. It was very cold overnight. Though cold, when the sun shines and the wind doesn't blow, it is very pleasant. We had great weather again. The walk to Gorakshep (16,864 ft) took about 3 hours with a constant flow of people. Our Three Passes route has merged with the route to Everest Base Camp route which is very popular! I'll be glad when they unmerge. Also, there were many helicopters flying up and down the valley. Some were medical evacuations. After lunch in Gorakshep, we went to Everest Base Camp (EBC) for the afternoon. We got views of the top of Everest, though only the tip. Base camp is a tent city on the Khumbu Glacier. The highlight of the day was stepping onto the icy part of the glacier.
