Manaslu Trek Day 12
Over the Larke Pass, 16,925 feet
Down to Bimtang, 12,139 feet
This was the longest day of our trip, around 12 hours on the trail. We were up at 3 a.m. and on the trail by 4. I started off too quickly, and because of the altitude, I felt quite dizzy. The trail was steep and I felt like I might fall into the abyss. I slowed down and felt much better. Others weren't as fortunate. One person in our group felt nauseous and was moving very slowly. Another was struggling with weakness due to high blood pressure. We were going so slowly, that most of the other trekking groups ended up passing us. The temperature was very cold as we started out in the dark. I had heat pads in my gloves. It must have been in the teens. I was looking forward to sunrise and light. The coming of light was truly beautiful as it lit up the mountains around us. I felt as if I was being spiritually lifted higher and higher, supported from within and pushed from behind. This wave of energy carried me up the mountain.
