Manaslu Trek Day 14
Gho to Tal
8,400 to 5,600 feet
from my Journal, November 22:
We stopped for an early lunch in the village of Dharapani (6,000 feet). It is amazing how quickly the journey is ending. Jeeps and motorcycles come as far as this village. This is also the junction for the start of the Annapurna Trek. Everyday brings such special experiences. Now that we are in the narrow river valley again, waterfalls are everywhere. We crossed the river on a suspension bridge shortly after lunch to walk on a smaller path away from motor vehicles. At the end of the day I met a young girl sitting on a stone wall in front of her home with a basket of pumpkins. We talked for a while. She asked for chocolate and a pen. I gave her my only pen and shared my trail mix. I took her name so she and one of my students back home can write. Later, I came back, met the rest of her family, and went for a walk to the waterfall behind their home.
