Manaslu Trek Day 8
Lho to Samagaun
10,400 to 11,100 feet
From my journal, November 16, 3:30 pm:
We arrived in the village of Sama or Samagaun at 11,100 feet at 2 pm today. It was a pretty easy day. We went mostly up only. No up then down. It is very cold except in the sun. There was ice on the trail. The valley has opened up giving tremendous views of the peaks. We walked by a large school before arriving in Samagaun and took some time to visit with the children and teachers. There were 8 teachers at the school and about 80 students, ages 5 to 14. A group of boys were playing soccer on a large field. I met their English teacher, whose name was Nyima Samdup. These kids need pens and paper, or copy. I asked Nyima how I can send some supplies. He said, "very difficult." The way supplies get here is many days by foot.
