Day 1-2 Kagbeni & Chhusang
Day 1 Kagbeni
Today we took a very small plane from Pokhara to Jomson and then hiked about 5 miles to the small village of Kagbeni. The flight was stunning with views of the Himalayas through the pilot's front window and the side windows. The other highlight was a walk through the village. I walked by a small private boarding school. Today was a holiday, so there were no classes, but I met the teacher who welcomed me. Kids said a prayer and then ate lunch. Later in the day we visited a small monastery. We met the monk/teacher who talked about a large detailed wall mural depicting the Buddhist wheel of life.
Day 2 Chhusang
Today we shortened our walk to 7 miles to allow to adjust to the altitude, about 10,000 feet. We stayed in the village of Chhusang. After lunch I went for a walk along the river and then up a dry wash to visit some deserted meditation caves carved into the cliffs. Nearby was a small monastery. We are following the course of the Kali Gandaki River. The dominant mountain in many photos is called Nilgiri. Unlike Manaslu, supplies, though limited, are transported by trucks in Mustang.
