Day 11-12 Kagbeni & Marpha
Day 11 Kagbeni
Today we are back in Kagbeni. We have retraced our route to where we started. We really enjoyed our hosts in Chhusang. Tomorrow we begin part 2 of our journey. We expect to be entering a much more lush environment as we move out of the rain shadow of the mountains.
Day 12 Marpha
Marpha is a beautiful small village that has been used in Indian and Nepali movies and videos. The people everywhere in this village have been so friendly! We walked the very narrow alleys and visited the monastery. In the monastery the monk opened one of the ancient books for us. The pages aren't bound like books we know. These books are about 500 years old and brought from Llasa, the capital of Tibet. While walking the alleys, I started taking photos of people in doorways. One family invited us in for tea and crackers and showed us their home. She told us that her family became Christian about 5 years ago. Other kids in the village are able to get sponsors to help with education, but not theirs. She also mentioned that they are of low cast and others of a higher cast aren't allowed to go in their home. She was very kind and welcoming with us.
