Day 16-17 Ghorepani & Birenthanti
Day 16 Ghorepani
We are now in Ghorepani at about 9,500 feet.
Day 17 Birenthanti
This was our last full day of trekking. We started with an early morning walk to about 10,500 feet at the top of Poonhill to watch the sunrise on the peaks. Unfortunately, it was hazy, as often is the case at this time of year. Even so, it was a great sight. After breakfast we started down to Birethanti, a huge descent down to 4,000 feet. For the first few miles we walked through a beautiful shaded oak and rhododendron forest along a small river. We found some small pools by a waterfall and took a swim. This was followed by the "Stone Staircase" which seemed to go on and on. ... I just looked at the map. I think it was more than a 2,000 foot descent of stone stairs. The next morning we walked a short distance and then meet a car to take us back to Pokhara.
