Golden Sail

A lone sailboat glides across the horizon. This location is close to my home, so has been one of my favorite places to visit at sunset this year.

Coyote Bridge

We spent several days in early May hiking in and along of the river in this remote canyon in Utah, part of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

Quartelhuain Sunset

This was taken outside of camp on the first night on the Cordillera Huayhuash trek back at the end of May this year. After settling in to camp I wandered up the valley around this peaceful creek. The following night was the coldest of the trip, as low as 10 F.

Edge of the Storm

Standing on San Antonio Pass, Peru at 16,664 feet was the high point the Cordillera Huayhuash trek. What a view! I soaked it in as long as possible before we had to retrace our steps down from the pass. For three of the previous days, we had been hiking in a rain and snow storm that you see here in the clouds hitting the other side of the mountain range.

When we finished dinner and went outside the dining tent, it was fully dark and this was the view. This was taken in the Peruvian Andes.

Mountain Garden

My favorite elevation for this area of the Sierra Mountains is eight to ten thousand feet, where the treeline thins and the alpine zone begins. Spring flowers at this elevation came early this year, at the end of June. What a great surprise to find this garden of color!

The Sierra Mountains are my backyard where I have been fortunate to visit again and again ...traveling where only feet can take you.

I had been waiting for days for high clouds on the coast to add color to the sunset. This day I got what I was waiting for.

Desert Bighorn Sheep

I watched along with several others as the herd moved across the rock and then dashed across the road in Zion National Park.

The Ancient One

This beautiful ancient tree is perched on the edge of the mesa in Canyonlands National Park.

Kanarra Creek Falls

The nice thing about hiking to these falls in mid-November is that you have the place all to yourself. The hard thing is that you have to walk in the water to get here and take this shot ....and the water was freezing cold!

Mud Hills in the Window

This is a more expansive view of the mud hills of Anza Borrego Desert State Park as seen taken through a natural opening in the rocks.
